As a member of the senior editorial management of the newspaper, Narayan splits his time between running the editorial and opinion pages, writing editorial and opinion articles on U. From he spent six years in this role, sending despatches on a wide range of subjects, from strategic issues in Indo-U. Before his tenure in America, Narayan worked in the Tamil Nadu bureau at The Hindu's Chennai headquarters from early , where he wrote about rural poverty and development.

Additionally, as an editorial writer, he wrote numerous opinion pieces on American presidential and congressional politics.
